MAMMALS OF NEW ENGLAND
This hands-on program is an excellent complement to any study of mammals and habitat.  Choose a single program or both for a complete study of mammal identification.  Discounts for multiple programs.

Part I.  Skins and Skulls
1 Hour  (Grades 3-8)
Participants will examine pelts and skulls to learn how to identify mammals found throughout New England. Discussion will include history, geographical range, habitat, physical characteristics and behavior.

Part II.  Track and Scat
1 Hour (Grades 3-8)
This program can be done indoors, outdoors or a combination of both.  Participants will learn to identify signs of mammals by examining plaster casts, tracks, and scat.  The workshop will typically start indoors with basic ID and then progress outdoors to search for real tracks or signs.  Tracks and scat may be “planted” prior to an outdoor workshop to simulate realistic encounters.

Activities to enhance understanding include making tracks in sand boxes, stencils and stamps.  For a fun kinesthetic element,  students will walk, hop, leap and bound to learn how mammals move.  Cast pouring can be added for an additional charge.
